The investigation was covered extensively in the French media, including Le Monde, Libération, Mediapart and Le Figaro. Reporter David Harrison also appeared live on news network France 3. It led to swift condemnation of Generation Identity from across France’s political spectrum.
The Mayor of Lille and the governor of the Hauts-de-France region called for the group’s headquarters to be shut down. Over the following weeks, hundreds of protesters took part in demonstrations also calling for the premises to be shuttered.
In December 2020, three far-right activists caught on camera during the investigation were found guilty of offences that included assault and incitement to terrorism. A judge said evidence from Generation Hate played a key role in establishing the men’s guilt.
